Poles aware of the influence of tyres on driving safety

According to research conducted by Moto Data 85% of drivers who change to winter tyres do so before the beginning of the season – in October or November[1]. Although winter tyres are not mandatory in Poland, 78%1 of Polish drivers are in favour of introducing legal requirement of seasonal tyre change.

Only 76 proc. of drivers declare that they changed their summer tyres to winter ones in season 2016/20171. Despite the frosty and snowy winter, it’s a much lower percentage in comparison to the results of prior studies, but much closer to the reality of polish roads. According to observations of multiple auto mechanics, only about 65 proc. of cars have homologated winter tyres. All of those drivers who had the dubious pleasure of driving on summer tyres during winter storm know how important tyres well suited for a given season truly are. In Moto Data’s survey drivers voted for an appropriate date for seasonal tyre change, and here are their answers:

„Poland is one of the few countries in European Union in which winter tyres are not legally required. Although, most drivers declare seasonal tyre change, the discrepancy between the surveyed is quite large. It indicates that we should introduce legislation which would deliberately state the date from which the use of winter tyres becomes mandatory and follow in the footsteps of, for example, all of our neighbours, except for Ukraine. We should also remember that the right equipment is not enough – we must always remain responsible and prudent while driving a car” – says Tadeusz Kuncy from Moto Data.
