European launch of the TyreAWARE campaign

European launch of the TyreAWARE campaign

The European association of tyre manufacturers launched the TyreAWARE campaign today. This project aims to raise awareness of the best practices and procedures for taking care of tyres, their storage and service life, and is aimed at tyre dealers, drivers and institutions dealing with traffic safety.

The TyreAWARE campaign was developed in cooperation with the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) and its members. Materials have been collected and translated into 14 European languages, and are available as a free download from the website (www.tyreaware.org).

Visitors can test their knowledge on best practices in tyre care by solving the TyreAWARE quiz (currently available in English).

Just like in the Polish Tyre Industry Association's campaign on tyre markings or the campaign "Pamiętaj o oponach" (Remember about tyres), an important goal for TyreAWARE is to improve drivers' knowledge and general awareness of tyres.

Extensive materials cover information and advice on storage of tyres, their purchase, maintenance and service life. The website also features films explaining when to replace tyres, the importance of monitoring their proper inflation, as well as switching to winter tyres.

"I believe that this campaign will be the next step in reaching the widest possible group of users and that it will help us in raising their awareness of different aspects of tyre use. The materials prepared for the campaign make useful information easily accessible," Jacek Pryczek, President of the Board of the PTIA, says.

"Each driver and serviceman should be aware of the presented information. Tyres are often the second fastest rotating element in a car. We have to learn how to care for them for our own safety," Piotr Sarnecki, President of the Board of the PTIA, adds.

As Fazilet Cinaralp, Secretary General of the ETRMA, says: "Tyres are a complex and highly technologically advanced product, as well as the only element connecting the vehicle to the road. Following the information and advice received during the campaign will increase tyre safety and durability, assure lower fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions, and make them less noisy -

The TyreAWARE European campaign conducted by tyre manufacturers raises user awareness

On 31 May 2016 a press conference was held, during which the European TyreAWARE campaign was launched in Poland. It is a joint project of tyre manufacturers and the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA), of which the Polish Tyre Industry Association is a member. Its goal is to raise awareness of the importance of tyre care and to show that this is easy. Information about best practices is addressed to, among others, drivers, tyre dealers and organisations involved in road safety. The www.tyreaware.org website is part of the campaign.

"You can't improve the ABS or ESP, seat belts, nor airbags in a car, but mounting good tyres and assuring appropriate care is the easiest way to increase safety on the road," Jacek Pryczek, Chairman of the Board of the PTIA, said.

During the conference both a web portal and a booklet "TyreAWARE czyli praktyczne informacje o oponach” (TyreAWARE, practical information about tyres) addressed to car service stations and drivers were presented. It will be available in tyre service stations. It will include information on tyre storage and transport, tyre tread depth and correct tyre pressure, facts and information on winter tyres, as well as tyre service life, etc.

Jacek Pryczek added that often users only show "interest" in two tyre-related activities: purchase and replacement. Unfortunately, most drivers forget a very important aspect of storage and proper tyre care. Most people don't think about them often enough, while under inflation has many negative implications, e.g. an increase in the temperature of the tyre itself affects its integrity.

ETRMA also draws attention to tyre storage, as the most damage often occurs due to improper storage. It's also worth noting that if a car remains stationary, not in use, the tyres also decay. That's why it's so important to regularly use a particular vehicle. Also, remember to only use a good service station, not to leave your car in the hands of amateurs.

Piotr Sarnecki, the General Director of the PTIA also unveiled a new website www.pamietajooponach.pl, which features tips on safe driving in the spring and summer period. "It's good for every driver to occasionally visit the website and remember the 12 rules that will make car travel a pleasure instead of a traumatic adventure, " Piotr Sarnecki added.

The European campaign is the brainchild of ETRMA members, who noticed that many motorists are not sufficiently informed on using tyres or the tyre industry in a more general sense. The objectives of the campaign are to increase awareness that the usability and performance of tyres don't diminish over time, if only proper care is taken, to improve drivers' understanding of their role in selecting tyres and caring for them, as well as to show the contribution of the tyre industry in sustainable development and benefits for society.

Piotr Sarnecki presented the "TyreAWARE czyli praktyczne informacje o oponach” (TyreAWARE, practical information about tires) brochure that is the basic element of the informational campaign. It consists of the following sections - tyre transport and storage, tread depth, correct pressure, winter tyres, facts and data on tyre service life, facts on the spare wheel, replacing tyres (available on www.tyreaware.org)

Along with the www.pamietajooponach.pl website, PTIA also launched a Facebook profile  "Pamiętaj o oponach", which is worth a visit.
