– Tyres for electric vehicles should support their range as much as possible without sacrificing safety parameters. The latest tread compounds are dedicated to electricians, which allow for longer ranges of these cars, and at the same time meet the requirements for driving safety. Therefore, only premium brand tyres dominate the market for electric cars. It is in them that all available technologies in given companies are gathered – says Piotr Sarnecki, General Director of the Polish Tyre Industry Association (PZPO).
Tyres for combustion and electric cars in terms of construction, compound used and other technical parameters differ both from the outside and in the internal structure. Their treads, in addition to a high level of safety, must cope better with the range. And these are seemingly contradictory parameters. A big trick is to construct tyres that reconcilethese opposing parameters. Inside, in turn, such tyres must have stronger belt layers that strengthen the sidewalls of the tyres and transfer more weight and torque available from virtually the smallest revolutions.
Proper installation of EV tyres is crucial
Tyres for electricians, due to the reinforced construction, are mounted slightly differently. Greater care is required with dismantling and assembly procedures and even more accurate adherence to tyre storage standards. They are even more susceptible to destructive factors. Additional expertise is needed to service such tyres. The higher load capacity of these tyres makes it necessary to use additional tyre fixers. Narrow and with a relatively high side wallare stiffer and more difficult to install compared to "traditional" tyres. The need to transmit high torques – starting, braking with a low centre of gravity of the vehicle, puts a strain on the beads of these tyres, which means that they have to be stronger – which means additional requirements during assembly/disassembly and inflation. The minimum equipment is assembly machines with auxiliary arms and rollers. It is impossible to mount these tyres safely for their construction by force on simple tips. Optimally, however, taking into account both the quality of assembly, efficiency and the health of employees in the medium and long term, we recommend bucketless fittings with jacks.
– The Tyre Academy was created from the need that PZPO members had. These trainings are already carried out not only for individual services, but also for networks. Interest in our trainings is growing from week to week. And it's not just corporate service networks that want to participate. The heads of independent networks have also announced their participation. These courses are also for them. We want to show services that it is possible to operate more widely, to offer more than just tyres. Of course, this must be shown in a simple, coherent way. We want to teach service crews not only the skills of proper wheel operation, but also to notice what is happening with the suspension and mechanics in its vicinity. This is a chance to build more lasting relationships between customers and companies and the opportunity to earn additional money – adds Sarnecki.
In addition, thanks to the cooperation of PZPO with the Academy of Practical Skills, the training in the operation of electric cars and hybrids awaited by the market was created – work with high voltages and 48V systems.
All trainings of the Tyre Academy take place in a modern, air-conditioned building, with well-equipped training rooms, with modern balancers, assembly machines, tyre repair stations, equipment for operating pressure sensors and a lift, including for motorcycles, as well as a theoretical training room. It is the first independent tyre industry training measure in Poland, which enables scheduled courses for tyre service techniciansand gaining appropriate qualifications. Also, the training center of the Academy of Practical Skills in Międzychód near Poznań is a modern training facility for mechanical operation of vehicles.

– The tyre service must be professional, as well as repairs and inspections of other parts of the car. We also cooperate with ASO stations in the field of tyres, so that not only the mechanics are performed at a high level, but also the wheels arehandled professionally. The idea is for the customer to see that the tyre service is made there at the highest level. So that the wheels are not transported to the service next door, which the customer does not know that this has happened. The risk of causing a catastrophe in road traffic is much higher than in the case of other services related to the repair or servicing of the car – explains Ryszard Marcinkowski, head trainer at the PZPO Tyre Academy.
