Some recovery on the tyre market in Europe and Poland

First half of 2014 has brought considerable revival and some good results in the tyre industry. European market is registering good growth. The Polish market on the other hand has been more contrasted.

Van tyres or scooter tyres for instance are suffering a strong downturn and we can see in general a slowdown in recent months probably due to the crisis in Ukraine.

Detailing the main segments, European tyre market has registered a growth of about 6% for car summer segment, 24% for car winter, 9% for 4x4, 10% for truck and bus, 8% for motorcycle 4% for agriculture and 2% for off-road.

If we look at Polish tyre market only, we have much higher growths than Europe at 14% in car summer, 12% in 4x4, 47% in agriculture and 20% in off-road linked to good economic prospects in Poland and increased activities in the mining, construction and agricultural sectors.

On the other hand Truck and bus registered only 4% growth in Poland, motorcycle 5% and car winter tyre demand has been flat following a rather mild winter.

- Overall situation in the tyre industry looks better than 2013 despite some slow down this summer. Demand has increased in almost all the segments following good economic prospects for Poland. We hope to keep such a trend for the growing segments or to see a rebound in the coming months for the less dynamic segments allowing tyre industry to close the year with a very positive result – says Piotr Sarnecki, PTIA Managing Director.

 - It is interesting to note that Germany remains the locomotive of Europe by having among the highest growths both for car tyres and truck tyres within the countries of Europe but in term of GDP Poland keeps higher growth thanks to a dynamic economic base - explains Armand Dahi,  President of PTIA.
