The industry sector is waiting for concrete support in the crisis

The current situation related to the introduction of the state of the epidemic in connection with the threat caused by the spread of coronavirus in Poland and worldwide is shaking up the economy, including the industry sector. In many workplaces production has been restricted or suspended due to a pandemic. The Polish industry, which employs over 3.2 million people and represents approx. 20% of total employment in Poland, is strongly affected by this. The value of sold products amounts to over PLN 1.5 trillion. Forum Rozwoju Przemysłu submitted demands and proposals for support instruments for enterprises to the government and parliament.

No developed country has undergone such a test for several decades. The activity of many industries at all levels – production, logistics, sales – is already out of balance. This is also the case with our main economic partners. Production companies cannot find other outlets. They will not manage even if they operate in international capital groups. This was not the case in the year 2000 or 2009. This upcoming wave of crisis requires more significant support instruments than in previous proposals, such as those presented by many other countries in our region.

– We can see that the government is preparing support proposals for entrepreneurs, but unfortunately, they are insufficient and do not respond to the real threat of the suspension of business activities of enterprises. First of all, we need mechanisms to save the millions of jobs we create, so that the current economic crisis does not turn into a social crisis – indicates dr inż. Tomasz Zieliński, President of the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry, initiator and chairman of Forum Rozwoju Przemysłu.

Industry as a sector ranks first in building Polish GDP, with a nearly 22% share. Large industrial plants are also a major partner for transport and the SME sector.

– We believe that in the current situation only equal treatment of all groups of entrepreneurs will bring the expected results. If large companies fail or significantly reduce their operations, smaller ones will not have orders. In our opinion, aid granted to all groups of enterprises will be in line with EU legislation in the context of permitted public aid – adds Piotr Sarnecki, general director of the Polish Tire Industry Association, co-founder of the Forum.

The Forum Rozwoju Przemysłu as a cooperation platform for key industrial organizations in Poland submitted to the Prime Minister demands to support enterprises in matters of financing, taxes, infrastructure and employment relations – among them:

1)      Introducing protective mechanisms for all enterprises, regardless of their size and capital sources,

2)      The state taking over the payment of sickness allowance from the first day of illness or quarantine in the amount of 100% of the insured person's salary,

3)      More support in co-financing jobs – e.g. taking over the payment of 60% of employees' salaries from an employer who noted a decline of min. 15% in inflows when compared to March 2020,

4)      Extinction of public tributes of entrepreneurs for 6 months, starting from the liabilities for March 2020 - VAT, PIT, CIT, Social Insurance.

All FRP Partners are fully aware that the possibilities of maintaining this pillar of economy depend on the quality of the support for the industry sector in difficult moments of a coronavirus pandemic.
