More tyres were sold on the Polish market in 2015 than the previous year. Increased sales were recorded both in passenger car tyres and truck tyres. The increases are not spectacular, but it is worth noting that sales results improved compared to 2014 by
1 percent - in the category of tyres for passenger cars and 3 percent - in the category of truck tyres.
The budget tyre segment still represents more than 40 percent of the market, but in 2015 a 4 percent decrease in sales was observed. The mid-range segment accounts for 28 percent of the market and noted an increase in sales of 9 percent. Meanwhile, the premium tyre segment totals 26 percent of the market and noted an increase in sales of 2 percent.
In the passenger car tyre category, tyres for SUVs should be highlighted, as their sales increased by 14 percent, as well as tyres for delivery vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, whose sales increased by 13 percent over last year.
"The Polish tyre market posted good results after a poor 2014. We hope that the upward trend will continue. This year's results are related to both, an increase in sales of cars and trucks, as well as improved awareness among Polish drivers regarding tyres," says Piotr Sarnecki, General Director of the Polish Tyre Industry Association. "More and more drivers are aware of how big an impact tyres have on their own safety," Piotr Sarnecki adds.
The industry achieved a positive result in the whole of Europe as well, in 2015 selling 3 percent more tyres for passenger cars, 4 percent more truck tyres and 2 percent more tyres for motorcycles. The only fall in Europe, of 9 percent, was recorded in agricultural tyres.
