Tyre sales in 2017

Increase in the segment of passenger, commercial, SUV and motorcycle tyres

According to Polish Tyre Industry Association’s data, in 2017 manufacturers and importers recorded sales growth in the segment of passenger tyres (+7%). The volume of sales has grown by 9% in the sector of SUV tyres and by 4% in the sector of commercial tyres. The vigorous growth in winter tyres sales, by as much as 11%, is worth noting. Data shows sustained upward trend for all-season (+29%) and motorcycle tyres (+25%).

-  Poland still shows more vigorous growth in tyre sales compared to European data – this indicates that our market still has potential for growth. The boost in the sales of brand name tyres of premium and medium class is great news for all road users – better tyre quality means improved safety for us and other drivers – points out Rafał Spirydon, President of the Board of Polish Tyre Industry Association (PTIA).

– The use of appropriate tyres during autumn, winter and spring’s foul weather can significantly decrease breaking distance and save lives. Drivers are starting to appreciate brand name tyres, because they give us a bigger safety margin in steadily rising road traffic adds Piotr Sarnecki, Director General of PTIA).

The picture  painted  by tyre sales rates in 2017 is one of stability – the response of the market this year has exceeded our expectations. We are concerned about the decline in sales of agricultural tyres, especially taking into account the fact that we note sustained growth in their import– said Fazilet Cinaralp, Secretary General of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturing Association (ETRMA).
