Tyre sales in H1 2021

Big increases in all segments

According to the data of the Polish Tyre Industry Association (PTIA), large increases in tyre sales were recorded in the second quarter of 2021. This is a confirmation of the trends observed since the beginning of the year and a way out of last year's pandemic collapse. Sales increased in the following segments: passenger car tyres +74%, SUV +103%, trucks +32%, vans +135%, agricultural +115%, industrial +57%. Tyre sales increased significantly in Europe as well – which is confirmed by the data of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA).

In the entire first half of 2021, sales increased: in the segment of passenger tyres +34%, SUV +56%, trucks +34%, vans +53%, motorcycles +14%, agricultural +55%, industrial +17%. The increase in the premium tyre class was as high as +46%, and their market share increased by 2 pp. up to 33%.

– We are observing very large increases in tyre sales in all segments. This looks like a strong trend and a rebound from last year's pandemic collapse. In the second quarter, we have three-digit year-on-year dynamics, as well as double-digit growth compared to 2019 – to the data from before the pandemic. In total, all tyre segments recorded clear, double-digit increases in the first half of the year – points out Maciej Winiarz, President of the Board of the Polish Tyre Industry Association (PTIA).

– It is important that drivers, despite the pandemic, have not forgotten how important tyres are in the context of road safety. They are investing more and more consciously and effectively in their tyres - as evidenced by the systematically growing share of premium tyres, which has already reached 33% and has overtaken the mid-range tyres. In most segments, the increases also exceeded those of 2019 – ads Piotr Sarnecki, General Director of the Polish Tyre Industry Association (PTIA).

European tyre market

Q2 2021 data confirms the positive evolution started in Q1 of this year, reinforcing the recovery trend of the industry. All segments have registered a positive evolution compared to the second quarter 2020 and this second positive quarter is a good signal for the industry and society, after the unprecedented impact of Covid-19 pandemic. The Consumer Tyres market is driving the growth with 44% increase, followed by the Truck segment (42%) and the Moto and Scooter segment (41%). The agriculture segment is lagging behind (6%).

“The second quarter positive results in all the segments are very promising for the recovery of the tyre industry and for the society. We are relieved and confident to see that, also thanks to the vaccine campaign, the world is restarting to move again”, said Mrs Cinaralp, Secretary General of ETRMA.

If we compare the 2021 data with 2019 same period, we observe that we are slowly going back to the same level, with the Car all seasons tyres leading the trend.
