According to data compiled by Polish Tyre Industry Association – based on ETRMA’s reaserch – in the first half of 2018 tyre manufacturers and importers in Poland recorded an increase in sales in the truck (+18%), agricultural (+4%) and motorcycle segments (+17%).
The secong quater of 2018 restored optimism on the market of tyres after the first one, which was difficult due to the prolonged winter. A good tyre offer and an increase in vehicle sales resulted in a revival in almost all segments. In addition to the above-mentioned record increase in truck tyres, the same trend is observed in the segment of SUV tyres (+ 14%) and tyres for motorcycles and scooters (+ 17%). From the point of view of transport safety and economy, the growing awareness of drivers and transport companies about the many advantages of premium class tyres is also very positive. In the last quarter, their sales increased by 6% for passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicle, and up to 34% for trucks.
What is particularly pleasing is that data for the first half of 2018 shows strong growth in the segments of agricultural and truck tyres. Sales of the latter increased by as much as 20% in the second quarter only – that is very good result after a few weaker seasons. Proper selection of truck tyres is a good investment, which in a few years reduces fuel expenses, the costs of vehicle and tyre repairs, and increases the safety of trackers and passenger car drivers.
– Tyres, mainly because of their rolling resistance, account for up to 30 percent of the fuel consumption of vehicles. The use of branded tyres allows for fuel savings of more than 2 litres per 100 km, that is approximately 5000 litres in a year. Tyres make up only about 3-5 percent of total expenses, but have a bearing on 40 percent of all operating costs. That is why the condition and the quality of tyres affect efficiency of businesses and have an impact on road safety – says Piotr Sarnecki, Director General of Polish Tyre Industry Association (PTIA) – It’s worth noting that low-quality tyre for steer axle will last only for about 120-150,000 km, while brand name tyres will cover over 222,000 km. If we take into account the option of retreading, the tyre lifespan can reach up to 450,000 km – Sarnecki points out.
Data from the Polish market show its potential and upward trend - while rather stable levels of tyre sales are maintained in Europe, with declines in the segment of tyres for agricultural vehicles and motorcycles.
