According to the data of the Polish Tyre Industry Association (PTIA) and the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA), in the first half of 2019 tyre manufacturers and importers in Poland recorded significant increase in sales in the SUV tyre segment – by as much as 20%. A standard increase in popularity of motorcycle tyres was noted – their sales increased by 12%. Sales of commercial tyres also increased – by 2%.

– The popularity of SUVs is growing, and thus the volume of sales of tyres dedicated to this type of vehicle – in the second quarter of 2019 it increased by as much as 23%. The growth in the commercial segment in the first half of 2019 is also very positive – it reflects the expansion of the fleet in courier companies and the demand of the SME sector. The first half of 2019 was a period of stable sales of truck and bus tyres – recorded results remain at a similar level as in the corresponding period of 2018. The two-digit sales dynamics in motorcycle tyres that we have been observing for several years confirms that Poles still like two-wheelers – says Giansimone Bertoli, president of the board of the Polish Tyre Industry Association.

– Yet another six months of growing market share of premium class tyres proves that the awareness of drivers is increasing. A simple calculation shows that, despite the slightly higher purchase price, these tyres offer better performance, which improves safety and ensures longer durability than the mid-range or budget tyres. Tyres are the only element of a car in contact with the road – their quality and technical condition has a huge impact on safety. Using good quality tyres significantly shortens the braking distance, saves money on fuel and can often save people’s lives – adds Piotr Sarnecki, general director of the Polish Tyre Industry Association.

– The tyre market provides a good picture of the general economic situation. The low passenger car tyre replacement sales mirror new car registrations in the European Union, which also declined in this first semester – says Fazilet Cinaralp, Secretary General of ETRMA.
